The Great Kindness Challenge!

The Great Kindness Challenge, started in 2011, is "a powerful tool that actively engages students, staff, families and the community in creating a culture of acceptance, tolerance and respect. It is one week devoted to performing as many acts of kindness as possible. Simply put, we believe that KINDNESS is strength and has the power to change the world for GOOD!"
Linkhorn Park is one of 3,639 schools with 1,964,683 students that have participated in this year's Challenge. It has been such a success that we have decided to continue the process!

Your child has been provided a checklist of 50 kind deed suggestions and has been challenged to continue to do as many as possible ALL THE TIME. These deeds can occur in school, at home or in the community and are a wonderful way to pay it forward.

Support your Child's Learning and Prepare for SOLS this Spring

Returning from winter vacation always brings a renewed spirit ready to learn. Teachers are ready to shift into high gear and students are ready to buckle down. SOLs seem like they are miles away, however, the sooner we begin to practice with our students the better. How can you help at home? Great question! If you go to the Linkhorn Park Elementary website you can click on "Resources" in the middle of the page. It will take you to many sites that you can used to practice regular skills, but also down at the bottom you will find specific practice sites under "Standards of Learning". Most of those links will take you to the VDOE site. That site provides practice questions and practice tools to interact with for all testing areas and grades. It also will let you know how you can ask questions while working with your child and provide clear objectives for you to help ensure your kids understanding.

Girls on the Run!

Girls on the Run will be offered to Linkhorn Park girls in grades 3-5 starting on Feb. 10th. It will take place after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays for a period of 10 weeks. GOTR is designed to allow every girl to recognize her inner strength with a curriculum that inspires girls to define their lives on their own terms. Throughout the season, the girls make new friends, build their confidence, and celebrate all that makes them unique. They also develop important strategies and skills to help them navigate life experiences. Mrs. Scarano, Mrs. Clark, Mrs. Bass, and Ms. Sprague have graciously volunteered to coach. Registration will open on-line in mid-January. Be on the look out!!

Kindergarten Registration

Kindergarten registration will be held on TUESDAY, APRIL 21, 2015 AT 9:00 A.M.
For your convenience, we have placed and electronic copy of the K registration packet on the LPES resource page.

Please tell people you know who have children who will be five-years-old on or before September 30, 2015 to attend the kindergarten registration at their neighborhood school.
In addition, parents who need to register their child for 1st grade after attending a private kindergarten, can do so on that day also.
Parents should bring:
• Their own ID (the registering parent must have identification)
• Their rising kindergarten student
• The child's physical and shot record (needed after their 5th birthday)
• Their social security card
• Two proofs of residence/address (lease agreement/mortgage statement and a current gas, electric, or water bills, cell phone bill or cable bill)
• ORIGINAL birth certificate (not a copy)
• Two emergency contact names and numbers (if possible)
If you do not have all of these things by April 21st, you should still attend so you can get the kindergarten registration packet that needs to be completed. In addition, it is a great time for your rising kindergartner to visit the classrooms, tour the school and take a ride on the school bus.
